 A long time ago (well, the Eighties) in a galaxy far, far away (okay, the UCLA campus), I heard a couple of co-eds having a passionate argument over two new pop stars. Finally, one girl turned to the other, and, with the temperament of a Crossfire panelist, screamed, “So which one do you like, Cyndi Lauper or Madonna?!” I didn’t stop them to ask, “Why do you have to choose?” for fear they’d throw their Walkman’s at me, but the question lingered in my mind.
