There’s something you should know about me: I love Matthew McConaughey! Do you know that if you give me the initials M.M. and the clue “bongos,” I’ll know immediately that you’re talking about Matthew McConaughey? I just think he’s so cool in whatever he does; whether it’s running shirtless on the beach, hanging out with Woody Harrelson, walking with his beautiful wife and child… Did I mention running shirtless on the beach? He’s just great.
Now that I’ve impressed you with a silly, yet topical fact about myself, here’s the trailer for McConaughey’s much more sombre, new Oscar-baity biopic, Dallas Buyers Club, via Variety. The film, which also stars Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto, tells the true story of Ron Woodroof, a man diagnosed with HIV who sought out alternative, non-FDA approved medicine from across the border, and inadvertently helped thousands living with the disease by creating the Dallas Buyers Club. It looks like a great, touching story that is finally being told, but yadda-yadda-yadda, will the Academy like it?
Let’s see: A true story about a revolutionary man that has yet to be told in film? Check. Extreme transformation for its lead star who was ignored for another great performance (Magic Mike)? Check. Jared Leto in drag? Triple check! But Jennifer Garner? I don’t know, was Jessica Chastain not available or something? Check out the trailer, below. The movie is set for release on November 1st, and despite its lack of bongos, I’ll be grabbing my ticket and tissues opening night (for crying! Gosh, get your mind out of the gutter, you guys).
