The gay statue thats got everyone talking!

Throngs of people have turned up at Museo del Templo Mayor in Mexico City to catch a glimpse of an ancient Aztec gay statue depicting a circumcised man masturbating while watching two other men do it doggy style.

The statue is part of an exhibition called “Seeds of Life” that features 188 pieces of ancient, pre-Hispanic erotic art made out of clay, stones, and shells. So far, an estimated 30,000 onlookers have toured the explicit exhibit.

The museum’s director, Javier González, says that Aztecs viewed “sexual pleasure and enjoyment of procreation [as] gifts given to humanity from the divine realm.”

Some of those “gifts” evidently included kinky gay sex.

“Our ancestors shaped the human body in a usual manner but full of deep symbolism,” says Teresa Franco, director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History. “Sexuality is an important element in these visual representations.”

She explains that nudity and the genitals were often associated with fertility, and that ritual masturbation served as “a metaphor for the penetration of the earth.”

That’s a lovely interpretation, but somehow we’re not sure it’s what folks coming to this exhibit are thinking about.

“Seeds of Life” runs until September 28 at the Museo del Templo Mayor in Mexico City.
