Here’s some surprising casting news. Entertainment Weekly reports that Tom Hardy (you might best recall him as Bane from The Dark Knight Rises or the man in the sexy theatrical poster for Warrior) will be playing Elton John in a beefy biopic titled Rocketman. Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman on Earth) is set to direct, with Lee Hall (War Horse) penning the film.

Maybe it’s not that surprising; I mean, if I was Elton John, I would totally get someone hot and attractive with the pecs of an angel to play me in a film. And can you imagine the massive adorkable appeal of Tom Hardy in a pair of signature Elton John frames? Word is, John will also be re-recording some of his biggest hits for the flick. Plus, if Elton himself makes a cameo when shooting starts in 2014, he could eclipse his own mesmerizing performance from that episode of The Nanny he guest-starred in with David Furnish. Fingers crossed!
