Whether it’s an asteroid or a meteor, zombie virus or chicken flu, nuclear warfare or a whimper, the world is expected to end in less then a week. 21/12/2012 is predicted to be the end of days so everyone is preparing for a lapse in moral restrictions, the creation of an underground bomb shelter, or a simple date with the one you love. It’s important to pair your last night with the perfect last song. When you really think about it, this may be the one thing that matters the most. That’s why I have created a few options. Go ahead: Select a track for your final send off.

Number 10: Hurricane Drunk – Florence + the Machine

For all of you hippies who want to absorb the earths final blow with a whimsical tune and fluttering fingers, there is no one better then the ethereal Florence Welch. Her acceptance of defeat is beautifully illustrated in this song. It tells the tale of a hurricane and the happiness it brings when one allows themselves to give into the destruction. The song is excellent whether you are going out in a blaze of glory or otherwise.

Number 9: Zombie – Natalia Kills

If the world is going to self destruct, a zombie apocalypse is one of the least likely, yet most attractive, options. Given the choice, I can guarantee some people would like to go out with a shotgun in one hand and a machete in the other. This beat by Natalia Kills is very fitting for such an occasion.

Number 8: Born to Die – Lana Del Rey (Gemini Remix)

Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” is excellent on its own. However, if you are going to watch the world crumble, a ballad might not be the thing to carry you home. With the help of Gemini and a few bold dubstep beats the song is transformed into the perfect ensemble for the end of the world. Whether you’re fighting off the undead or making love one last time, this just might be the jam for you.

Number 7: Edge of Glory – Lady GaGa

Even though GaGa says her famous melody is about the love connection between her grandparents, I would disagree. The lyrics suggest a beautiful end. With this remix you will be able to dance in the acid rain while you marry the night one last time. Lets be honest, who doesn’t want to go out listening to our Mother Monster?

Number 6: The End of the World – Ingrid Michealson

If you don’t feel pulled to go out in a blaze of bar crawls, you may be looking for a more somber end. For those feeling poetic or even romantic, this depressing yet hopeful ballad about the end is probably the piece for you. It’s simple, sweet, and hardly for the single folks.

Number 5: Stay Awake – Ellie Goulding

If you’re like me and bedtime past eight is unlikely to occur, even if it is our last day, this song may push you to have your eyes open while the heavens blow this third rock to pieces. The poppy dance track is just the thing to get you watching for the bright, beautiful, and, more important, impending asteroids.

Number 4: Skrillex –Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

This dubstep track is a great Grunge grip to accompany your final night of celebration and, lets be honest, sex. Whether you’re a dubhead or not, this song will get your heart beating and your body moving.

Number 3: Till the World Ends – Britney Spears (Femme Fatale Remix)

“I know it’s not my destiny to die listening to a Britney Spears album,” says Megan Fox, who puts on Spears whenever she flies in an effort to avoid crashing. I wouldn’t disagree. However, this is a super catchy soundtrack for those planning on dancing until the end. With the help from the two sexy songstresses Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, this beat is epic. Also, if Fox is right, cranking this track may just postpone the blast.

Number 2: Radioactive – Imagine Dragons

These beautiful boys hit it hard just to get your blood boiling. The aggressive track about a chemical-induced end is both moving and motivating. If you have your handy gas mask and a bullet-proof vest, then you are just a handgun away from fighting your way to survival. This song will push you to self-preservation.

Number 1: Skyfall – Adele

Oh Adele! Her voice is not only the very embodiment of a modest sensuality to an untimely end, but this song’s subject matter makes it unbeatable. No one could say there is any better vocals to hear belted when the blue planet bursts. Her voice will call you away to an eternal nirvana where everything will be okay. The song is astounding, whether its the soundtrack to your salvation or the intro to a terrible film.
